The Vinha das Romãs is the result of story that began in 2002, when, where once stood an orchard of pomegranates, a vineyard was planted. Over the years, the vineyard established itself and the resulting wines denoted a very particular structure. It was only when we studied the soil in detail that we discovered the reason behind such personality and texture. The roots of the new Vinha das Romãs were intertwined with the roots of the pomegranates that were left buried, enriching the soil. What remained of those pomegranate roots, made this vineyard very special because of the impact they had on the soil. It is in this way that this Single Vineyard stands out with a very particular profile, having adopted the name of the vineyard from which it comes.

This is one of the most consensual wines of Ravasqueira, which, year upon year, seeks to take advantage of this unique terroir where, before there were grapes, lied an orchard of pomegranates.
With a long stage in barrels of French oak, this wine shows the elegance of the Syrah and Touriga Franca varieties, used in different percentages from year to year and coming from small zones of an area of five hectares.

It is a wine that represents, in full, the use of precision viticulture, a technique that seeks to know the particularities of the grapes, plot by plot, row by row, vine stock by vine stock, thus discovering the best destination for each grape.

Tasting Notes
Dense incarnate colour, dark and opaque. Closed nose, at first. Followed by a complexity of black fruits, cedar, forest fruits, squaw mint, spice mix, cardamom, and earthy. Tasteful, solid, growing tannins yet solid and elegant at the end. Very fresh, granite mineral finish. Potential in bottle during the period of 2020-2030.

Vinha das Romãs is a very special vineyard. It gives rise to wines that are the result of a story that began in 2002 when, the place where an orchard of pomegranates was located, gave way to the planting of a vineyard. Over the years, the vine took root and gave rise to a wine with a very particular structure. It was only when we studied the ground in detail that we discovered the origin of so much personality and texture. The roots of the new vines were intertwined with the roots of the pomegranates. What was left of the roots of the pomegranates made this vine very particular thanks to the impact they had on the soil.

The grapes were manually placed in the press where the whole bunches were pressed. Fermentation up to 1/3 of the fermentation in stainless steel vats and from then on in new French oak barrels where the battonage work was extended for 6 months.

It is a wine that fully represents the use of precision viticulture, a technique that seeks to know the particularities of the grapes, plot by plot, line by line, vine by vine, thus discovering the best destination for each grape.

Tasting Notes
Minerality is present immediately when you take it to the nose. Fruit notes such as peach and apricot are revealed. The crunchy acidity, which is the mainstay of this wine, is balanced by the fruit. The aromas of toasted bread, accentuated by the creaminess that the aging in barrels gave to it, makes this wine a white wine for the cellar. It’s exciting to think about how it will be in a few years.
